10 Affirmations to Practice When You Feel Lost and Directionless

Often in our fast-paced lives, we experience mental fatigue and start feeling directionless. In the race of achieving and accomplishing, a setback in our professional or personal life can throw us off-track and leave us doubting our own abilities.

Mental exhaustion can result in anxiety, stress eating, mental block, irritability, insomnia, and lack of motivation. We have all encountered this situation when we have felt lost and directionless. If left unattended for weeks and months, mental exhaustion can soon push us towards the abyss of depression.

I have experienced the power of affirmation during these times when I don't have a single clue on what can motivate me and make me feel better.

Affirmations can re-program our subconscious mind and help us create the life that we want. Affirmations encourage us to overcome self-doubts and believe positive things about ourselves and the world we live in.

Here are 10 affirmations to practice when you feel lost and directionless:

1. "I flow with life easily and effortlessly. Life supports me at all times."

💛

2. "The Divine Intelligence/Universe is always guiding me. I cannot be lost or lonely or abandoned ever."

💛

3. "The wisdom I seek is within me. Everything that I want to know gets revealed to me at the right time."

💛

4. "I live in the 'Now' and that is my Superpower."

💛

5. "All is well. I have everything I need now."

💛

6. "I  release the need to be perfect. I love and approve of myself exactly as I am."

💛

7. "My best relationship is the one with me. I value myself."

💛

8. "I choose thoughts that nourish me, uplift me, and give me peace. I love my own thoughts."

💛

9. "There is help wherever I turn. I am safe."

💛

10. "I focus my mind on the beautiful things in life and feel grateful for them."

It is our responsibility to take care of our mental health whenever we encounter any warning signs. Affirmations are a great way to change our negative thinking patterns, thus boosting our mental health.

Repeat each affirmation three to five times slowly and clearly. It may feel odd in the beginning but soon you will love the positive vibrations emanating from the words and filling you up. Let the words feel as natural to you as your breath. Remember, as you say those words aloud, you are bringing all the good things in your life through the Law of Attraction.

If you feel mentally exhausted, do not continue working on autopilot. Take a break, have your favorite beverage, practice affirmations, journal about the things you are grateful for, and read a positive self-help book. You can check out Louisa Hay's "Meditations to heal your life". That's the book I am reading these days.

Let us all prioritize our mental health this year!

Stay blessed. Stay safe.

A Letter to my 20 Year Old Self

Dear 20-year-old Purba,

Today, I remembered you the way one remembers a favorite novel read long back or a favorite movie watched long back. I felt like reliving your life and the world around you the way one feels like watching every scene of a favorite movie again.

You simply refused to go away from my mind despite the deadlines beckoning me every fifteen minutes. I remembered the hopeless romantic, the crazy dreamer, the kind soul, the aspiring writer and singer so much in love with life. You inspire me, girl!

When I feel I am becoming a cynic, you teach me to love deeply, be ridiculously kind, and forgive others. When life seems mundane, you teach me to become a hopeless romantic once again. Every goal that I set and achieve, the inspiration has to be the crazy dreamer that you are.

Today, I long to have a long chat with you because no one can understand me perhaps better than you. Honestly speaking, I feel too tired today with all the bitterness and hatred lurking all around, especially in social media. It is challenging to be positive when you are surrounded by negativity all around.

Twitter/Facebook were once such fun places to be.  Strangers became close friends and now, friends become strangers and strangers can give you threats if your ideologies/opinions don't match with theirs. It is like walking on eggshells every single minute.

Today, we are battling a pandemic where our country is registering nearly 1 lakh cases daily but I realize that the venom-like hatred in hearts is such a bigger pandemic than the Corona Virus. It is more contagious and deadly.

I long to spend some quality time with you today. Together, let's listen to some Bollywood retro songs, ghazals, and 90s pop songs.

I know you will teach me to see how far I have come and how much I can go ahead. You will remind me that although the outer world is not in our control, our inner world is. I know you will fill my heart with love, light, gratitude, and magic. You will teach me to spread my wings and fly in the sky of love, dropping every ounce of negativity. You will teach me again how to sing amid chaos and dance amid storms.

Love,
30-year-old Purba

Fall in Love : Free Verse (Letters from the Soul #6)

Fall in love
With your loyal 3am companion
Who knows all your secrets
Patiently wipes your tears,
And never gives up on you
Fall in love
Darling! I'm talking about you.

Fall in love
With your quirks that make you laugh
Your emotions that add to your beauty
Every scar that whispers your story
Fall in love
Today! Bask a little in your glory.

Fall in love
With how you stitch your cracks
Flaunt your smile amid the tempest dark
Pick yourself up from the murky pit
Fall in love
Now! Celebrate your indomitable spirit.

Fall in love
With how deep you love and care
Accept every rose with its thorns
The way you trace the silver lining
Fall in love
Again!  You're meant to keep shining.

Fall in love
With your lifelong companion
Who'll be there with you in sun and rain
Grow wiser each day to ease your pain
Who'll be forever true to you
Fall in love
Darling! I'm talking about you.

Note: This is a free verse on self-love. May we all be unapologetically kind to ourselves and find the time to fall in love with ourselves again and again.
Celebrate yourself! You can never pour from an empty cup. So, fill the cup of your heart with self-love so that you can love others.

From this moment on...

She wept uncontrollably, sitting on the cold floor at 3 am in the morning. Her heart was bedecked with thorns and the pain was unbearable. Her parents were sleeping in the other room. All her friends were sleeping too. She had no one in the world to talk about her maladies. She wanted to scream and yell, but she didn't want to wake anyone up. Tucking her head between her legs, she kept sobbing with those questions that haunted her again and again.

What is my mistake in this? I try to be good and kind to everyone, then why do some people hurt me so badly? Why is my heart injured and broken for literally no fault of mine? And this is not the first time...it keeps happening again and again. How can some people be so cruel and selfish?

As she felt lost within the tangled web of questions, her eyes fell on the mirror. She hated the sight. Red, swollen eyes. Runny nose. Dark lines under her eyes. Messy tresses drenched with tears.

She wiped her tears and looked into the mirror again. She grabbed a rubber hand and tied her hair. Now the sight did not disturb her as much as it did a few minutes back. She touched the dark circles that were accumulated due to loss of sleep for almost a week. Her eyes looked tired due to severe crying. There were marks of nails on her cheeks that she inflicted on herself. When the pain in her heart became too excessive for her to tame, she tried to cause physical pain to herself, in vain.

What have I done to myself? Here, I am crying because some people I loved, have deeply wounded me. But was I kind to myself?

The more she looked at her in the mirror, the more she realized how cruel she had been to herself, for no fault of hers. She took some face wash in her hand and washed her face thoroughly. Instead of sitting on the cold floor, she went to her bed. She covered herself with the blanket and took a deep sigh.

I can't control people's behavior towards me. Some people can be cruel and selfish. Some people can be insensitive or manipulative. But I promise that from this moment on, I won't be cruel to myself. From this moment on, I won't inflict myself with pain and conflict. From this moment on, it is my first responsibility to take care of myself so that I can battle with the wounds given to me by others. From this moment on, I will treat myself with kindness, care, forgiveness, compassion and love. I will be there for myself as a friend, always.

P.S. Especially wrote this post because one of my close friends is going through a bad phase. I hope the message reaches out to her and she gets encouraged to love herself with all she has.
