Trailer Breakdown - The Lovely Mrs Mookherjee, an intriguing ZEE5 Bengali Original

When I watched the trailer of ZEE5 Bengali Original, The Lovely Mrs Mookherjee yesterday, I was baffled and surprised. Is it a woman’s fantasy movie? Is it science fiction? Is Mrs Mookherjee a robot? These were a few questions that popped in my mind immediately after watching the trailer. And if a trailer can keep a person wondering for hours, then that’s a victory for the filmmaker. Watch The Lovely Mrs. Mookherjee online now to crack the mystery.
She is beautiful. She is mysterious. She is extraordinary. She is the Lovely Mrs Mookherjee.
Directed by Indranil Roy Chowdhury, the movie looks promising with its innovative concept and amazing star cast. The titular role is played by one of the famous names in Bengali cinema, Swastika Mukherjee and her husband’s role is essayed by acclaimed actor, Bratya Basu.
Trailer Breakdown
The trailer of The Lovely Mrs Mookherjee starts with a girl’s voice, eager to tell a story that we might find interesting. We are shown a laboratory where a person is gearing up to perform a scientific experiment. We can see an injection and a helmet-like instrument that is placed on a man’s (Bratya Basu) head. There is a mention of millions of electrochemical impulses. We are told that all our thoughts and feelings, sadness and joy are electrochemical impulses.
Now, the trailer takes us from the laboratory to a typical middle-class Bengali household. We can see a demure and homely married Bengali woman (Swastika Mukherjee - click here to know more about her) who is referred to as Minu Mashi by the speaker. Although the narrator tells with a conviction that Minu Mashi is an extraordinary woman, we can find nothing extraordinary or even borderline interesting about her.
She is living a dull and mundane married life. Her husband does not care to look at her even once. She is often ignored and ridiculed by her husband. We can see the pain and dejection in her eyes that makes us feel pity for her.
The Twist
At this moment, the narrator is interrupted by the attentive listener who wonders why she is telling a tragic story. With twinkling eyes, the narrator reveals that the story is now going to take an unexpected twist.
The trailer takes us back to the laboratory again. We can see the face of Mrs Mookherjee’s husband on a big screen. There is a drastic change in the dynamics of the husband and wife. Mrs Mookherjee sits in front of a computer screen and orders her husband to entertain her. The husband from inside the screen obeys the orders of his wife. He also finds his wife interesting and alluring.
The homely wife now gets to live the life of her dreams in front of a computer screen where all her fantasies can come true.
Unveil the mystery
The trailer ends with such a cliff hanger that only after watching the movie, one can understand the plot and the mystery. From the trailer, it is evident that we can expect great performances and an innovative story. If you are wondering whether The Lovely Mrs Mookherjee is a woman’s fantasy tale or a sci-fi movie, you need to watch this ZEE5 Original today to unveil the mystery.

Richa Chadha shines in ZEE5 Original Film, Cabaret

Yesterday, I watched a captivating movie, Cabaret on ZEE5. The movie, starring Richa Chadha, Gulshan Devaiah, S.Sreesanth and Gulshan Grover in pivotal roles has been directed by Kaustav Narayan Niyogi and produced by Pooja Bhatt. The movie revolves around the life of a successful dancer whose journey begins from a small village called Gumla in Jharkhand.
Plot
The movie begins with a book launch. The author narrates the story of the protagonist who wanted nothing more than love in her life. The flashback takes us to Jharkhand where we see police ruthlessly killing a man, rendering his wife helpless. As the policeman tries to molest the woman (Richa Chadha), she kills him brutally.
6 years later, the woman has become Rosa, a successful dancer. Gaurav (Gulshan Devaiah), an investigative journalist who has lately become an alcoholic due to some unfortunate events is given the task of taking an in-depth interview of Rosa.
It’s through this interview that we learn Rosa’s painful and shocking story. From her escape to Mumbai, her career as a dancer and the dark twists that eventually follow, the narrative leaves the audience gasping for breath.
As time passes, Gaurav and Rosa fall deeply in love with each other. The responsibility of protecting Rosa from constant death threats from the underworld gives a purpose to Gaurav’s life. However, will he be able to save her life? Will he be able to tell the story of her life to everyone? To know that, you have to watch the movie.
Performances
Few minutes into the movie and Richa Chadha’s acting left me speechless. She effortlessly changes from a helpless woman to a confident dancer in the movie. Her dance performance especially in the song “Ghoongroo toot Gaye” is praiseworthy. Her moves are graceful, yet her eyes depict a profound pain.
Gulshan Devaiah’s acting is brilliant. I loved the scenes where he quietly observes Rosa with clammy eyes. He is equally good in the scenes where he is dealing with the villain.
S.Sreesanth who played one of the most interesting characters in the movie did complete justice to his role. It was a treat watching him perform with such panache. Gulshan Grover was impressive in a villainous role with a menacing performance.
Dialogues and Direction
There are some beautiful dialogues in the movie between Rosa and Gaurav. I loved the scene where Rosa, after narrating her life story tells Gaurav: “Dil kyu kisi par aitbaar karta hai ye bas dil hi janta hai.”
The scene where Gaurav takes her interview and asks some general questions was also amazing.
Gaurav: Bhagwan mein yakeen karti hai?
Rosa: Haan. Kyuki mujhe pyar mein yakeen hai.
The direction is clever and good. I loved the way the director chose to oscillate between the past and present to keep the audience engaged. As the editing is crisp, the movie is fast-paced. Once you start watching the movie, you won’t be able to leave it in between. I also enjoyed the way the director pushed the audience towards the climax. The mystery was intact and I could not guess the ending.
Soundtrack
Songs form an integral part of the movie. They are not a mere embellishment and take the story forward. I liked the songs “Do jaane anjaan”, “Tum ko jo paya ab”, and “Ghunghroo toot gaye”. The haunting and sombre background score added to the mood of the movie.
Final words
If you are a movie buff looking for an intriguing thriller, you should watch Cabaret on ZEE5. The acting, direction, and soundtrack will surely impress you. The movie is about 90 minutes long, so you can easily finish it at one sitting. So, what are you waiting for? Grab a bowl of popcorn and enjoy the movie this weekend.

Homecoming of Terror: House of Cards Season 5 Episode 1 Review

Summer has hit really bad in India this year with the heat wave not letting me go for hangouts with my friends. Thankfully, there are some good things in life, even in this sweltering heat, such as mangoes and Season 5 of House of Cards, both of which I savored to the fullest in the last few days. May ended on a great note as Season 5 of House of Cards premiered on 30th May, 2017 on Netflix. Well, it was a long wait since Season 4 was out in March, 2016, but I must say that the wait was totally worth it.

House of Cards

House of Cards is a very popular U.S TV series based on the novel by Michael Dobbs. It is a thrilling American political drama TV/web series created by Beau Willimon. It tells the story of a ruthless politician, Frank Underwood, who can go to any extent to conquer Washington, D.C. He does not want to end up as a one-term president. He is aided by his shrewd and pragmatic wife, Claire Underwood.

House of Cards deals with themes such as manipulation, power and ruthless pragmatism. The lead actors of this political drama are Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright who have done a phenomenal job in all the seasons. Spacey and Wright have also won Best Actor and Best Actress of Television Series Drama in Emmy Awards.

Episode 1, Season 5 [Chapter 53]

I must say that Season 5 began on a very interesting note. Since I will be reviewing the first episode of Season 5 in detail, there may be some spoilers in this blog post. So, go ahead only if you are okay with it.

Season 5 of House of Cards picks up just a few days after the finale of last season, where we saw ICO terrorists capture the Millers, an American family. The Underwoods could negotiate the release of Caroline (mother) and Melissa (daughter), but Jim (father) was beheaded ruthlessly live on television at 9:00. The Underwoods promised to 'make the terror' instead of 'submitting to terror'.

Season 5 begins with Claire Underwood looking at the camera and recording a message for the citizens of America. She warns the people of America by saying that they should tell if they see anything odd and suspicious in their neighborhood. The trademark icy glare of Claire makes you all set for the thrilling events that will unfold in Season 5.

The speech of Claire is followed by another interesting scene where we see Frank Underwood entering the chamber of Congress, where a politician is provoking others to take a stand about the misdoings of the President. Frank Underwood unapologetically grabs the microphone and says that he is on his way to the funeral of Jim Miller, who was beheaded ruthlessly by ICO on the American soil. He expresses his surprise that the chamber chooses to debate him instead of focusing on the present important issues. He says that he wants war against ICO.

Claire and Frank Underwood at Jim Miller's Funeral

These two opening scenes are so powerful that it sets the mood for House of Cards Season 5. I was totally drawn into the Season by the end of these two scenes. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright are such good actors that it’s always a treat to watch them as Frank and Claire.

Another powerful scene that I loved in the first episode was when Melissa, the daughter of Jim Miller whispers in Frank Underwood’s ear at her father’s funeral, “I wish you die and she (Claire) becomes the president.” Melissa believes that Frank is responsible for her father’s death and therefore, hates him. Frank’s stoic expression on hearing the words and Claire’s twinkling eyes after learning what Melissa said in Frank’s ears was noteworthy.

Will Conway, the Republican Party nominee was furious to know that his wife, Hannah has uploaded a video online sympathizing with Joshua Masterson’s mother. As Claire gets to know about the video, she decides to meet the terrorist’s mother.

Mother of Joshua Masterson being interrogated by Claire Underwood

The scene between Claire and Joshua Masterson’s mother is another favorite scene of mine in this episode. The polite chat soon turns into a hostile and unsympathetic interrogation. When Claire tells the mother that she must have known what was going in her house, the mother starts weeping to which she doesn’t receive any sympathy. Claire sternly tells her to appeal to her son to surrender.

However, the last ten minutes of the episode was what blew my mind totally.  When it was revealed to us that Frank already had Joshua Masterson in custody the entire time, my jaw dropped. Frank taunts Joshua Masterson and then gives order to an agent to kill him. He orders to get some usable, good footage of the killing of the terrorist.

Frank Underwood taunts the terrorist, Joshua Masterson

In the last scene of the episode, we see Frank and Claire saying to the people “You’ve nothing to be afraid of.” He then turns to the camera and says the same to us with a sneer.

My views

I thoroughly enjoyed the first episode of Season 5. There were elements of thrill and suspense at every turn. Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright delivered top-notch performances. It was a treat to watch them both. Even petty expressions such as a glare or a smirk were pitch-perfect.

If you watch the first episode, you will agree with me that Season 5 seems much more intense and focused than the last season. Here, we see the Underwoods determined and ruthless like never before. At the same time, I would like to point out that appearance of characters such as Catherine Durant and Doug Stamper were few.

The background music goes perfectly well with the scenes. The first episode of Season 5 kept me on my toes. I am sure the fans of House of Cards will absolutely love it. You can watch the television premiere of House of Cards Season 5 only on Zee Café on 3rd June, 5 pm onwards. Get set to have a rocking Saturday! #HOConZCafe

One crazy, adventurous Trip with your BFFs

Best friends. Adventures. Travelling. Laughter. Heart to heart conversations.
And you get memories of a lifetime.

Out of the several unticked things in my never-ending bucket list, a crazy, adventurous trip with my best friend before getting married tops the list. My best friend, Priyam and I have been discussing it for the last two years, but unfortunately, it didn't happen yet. Work deadlines, family and other issues keep popping whenever we make a plan. And it gets postponed.

Last weekend, I came across the popular web series called "The Trip" in YouTube. It is a super fun, coming of age story of four girls who go on a road trip from Delhi to Thailand. As one of the girls in their group, Ananya is about to tie the knot, the girls plan a crazy bachelorette road trip. Ever since I watched Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, I have always yearned to see something like "The Trip" in which a group of girl best friends embark on a journey.

It is a fun, adventurous and emotional roller coaster ride. I watched the eight episodes back to back uploaded so far in the last weekend and have become addicted to this web series. I can't wait for Episode 9 which will be uploaded on Thursday.

The best thing was that I found both me and my close friends in these four girls- Shonali, the free-spirited musician (played by Lisa Haydon), Nazia, the firecracker, absolutely bindaas and aspiring journalist (played by Mallika Dua), Ananya, the sweet and adorable bride-to-be (played by Shweta Tripathi) and Sanjana, the introvert yogi with a rule-book (played by Sapna Pabbi). The four characters are extremely relatable. Check out the trailer. I am sure every girl will love it.

I am enjoying the web series so much that I compelled my closest friends, Priyam and Triyas to watch it. The actual idea is to influence them so that they agree to go on a trip this year, come what may. Because this phase of our life won't come back once we are married.

Therefore, an adventurous trip with my bestie or BFFs means a lot to me. It is the most important thing on my bucket list and I wish to tick it off, finally this year.

I have traveled with my friends in college excursion. I have traveled solo. I have traveled with family. But I am sure nothing can be better than traveling with your BFFs and making countless memories that you can cherish throughout your life.

Have you ever gone for an adventurous trip with your BFFs? How was the experience? I would love to know.

La La Land is for the crazy, dedicated dreamers!

“There are certain emotions in your body that not even your best friend can sympathize with, but you will find the right film and the right book, and it will understand you.”~ Bjork

That was exactly how I felt about the movie “La La Land.” There are some movies that draw you so deep within that you can’t come out of that hangover ever. I watched La La Land on 31st December and even after one full week, I find myself thinking about the movie.

La La Land is a movie about the crazy and dedicated dreamers, the people who don’t give up on their dreams, no matter how much they have to bear for it. It is about the scar of struggles that people have to undergo while fulfilling their dreams. It is about the power of love that can inspire you to make your dreams come true.

It tells the story of Mia (played by Emma Stone) who is a struggling actress. She works in a café and goes every day from one harrowing audition to the other. It also tells the story of Sebastian (played by Ryan Gosling) who is a struggling jazz musician. He plays jingles in a restaurant and is not allowed to play jazz as the owner of the restaurant hates it. When he gets carried away and plays jazz one day, he is immediately fired.

When Mia and Sebastian meet, it is pure magic. They listen and understand each other’s journey. They can empathize with the passion both of them have towards their chosen art form. They inspire each other to rise above the circumstances. Sebastian, who dreams of running his own club, suggests Mia to write a play and perform it. It was extremely heartening to see how these two individuals play such a significant role in each other’s life and lift each other higher. It was soulful to see how Mia and Sebastian’s dreams come true.

La La land is a romantic musical with exceptional cinematography. The music, the dance, the camera work…everything was pitch-perfect. Each and every frame of the movie was poetry in motion. I don’t remember the last time I watched a movie that impressed me so much.

The scars of struggles that were shown in the movie were so relatable, that I guess, anyone who is struggling to fulfill a dream will surely relate to it. There was one scene where Mia breaks down and tells Sebastian that she thinks that perhaps she is not good enough after going through a series of unsuccessful auditions. I could certainly recognize that emotion. I felt the same way when my manuscript got rejected so many times for a wide range of reasons. We all feel that way when we face repeated rejections and the life of every artist has its fair share of rejections.

La La Land also makes you believe in the magic of love. It makes you believe that dreams definitely come true if you don’t abandon them.

Have you ever felt angry when someone has not shown respect to your favorite art form?

Do you wake up every morning with the desire to work towards your dreams?

Have you ever faced a breakdown moment at night due to repeated rejections/failures and yet did not abandon your dream?

Do you feel there is perhaps someone like you in this world who can understand your journey?

If you have answered yes to even one of the questions, you must watch La La Land. It is cinema and storytelling at its best.

Kolkata Literary Meet: The impact of today’s Hindi film heroes!

Yesterday, I attended an amazing literary session in Kolkata Literary Meet at the Victoria Memorial. In the session, two filmmakers, Imtiaz Ali and Aditya Vikram Sengupta discussed why the Hindi film hero of today talks more and fights less. It was an extensive discussion on the impact that today’s Hindi film heroes make on the audience.

In the earlier days, the Bollywood hero always had a larger than life character, which the audience aspired to become, but could hardly relate to. On the other hand, now with movies such as Wake up Sid and Tamasha, the audience connects to the hero on an emotional level because the things that are shown in the movies happen in our lives too.

Therefore, when we see Hindi film heroes on the big screen today, it is more like seeing ourselves. We see the hero fighting demons that we also fight on a regular basis. Earlier, when we used to see a hero beating up ten goons alone to save his lady love, it was something that we loved watching, but could never connect to. On the other hand, now when we watch our heroes fighting their inner demons and turmoil, we can relate to them instantly.

Now about the question why the heroes of today fight less and talk more, Imtiaz Ali asks the host, Devapriya Roy when was the last time she had hit someone out of rage. He states that in any crisis or in any turmoil, we try to speak out, instead of hitting someone. Therefore, the heroes of today talk more to make sense out of a situation.

Moreover, in today’s day, when we are always busy, a long, meaningful conversation with someone helps us to sort our conflicts and issues in a systematic manner. Unlike the earlier days, when the hero had to fight with the world in large, nowadays the fight is often within.

Therefore, the impact that today’s Hindi film heroes have on the audience is large. It is not confined to the three hours of watching the movie, but the impact lingers long after the movie has ended. The Hindi film hero is much more human today, with his vulnerabilities and weakness.

It was a sheer treat to hear Imtiaz Ali speak and answer the questions asked by the audience with patience. He is not only eloquent and intelligent with a charismatic personality, but is also very humble. His humility and amiability makes him so charming. When asked by someone from the audience how he writes and directs his movies that they always manage to have the Sufi touch, he smiles and says “I honestly don’t know.”

I feel privileged to have attended this session and see the impact that today’s Hindi film heroes make on the audience in a new light. And yes, I feel super lucky that I could take a selfie with my favorite director, Imtiaz Ali.

ANYBODY can DANCE with COLGATE MAX FRESH

What is life without some Taazgi Ka Dhamaka?
Now, anybody can dance with Colgate MaxFresh
The cooling crystals teach you
How to groove and give Thumka!

This weekend, I was really sad as my plans with my best friend got cancelled due to some unavoidable reason. Despite being a chatterbox, I was unbelievably quiet. I was sitting with a gloomy face, when I got a parcel from Blogadda which contained the amazing Colgate Max Fresh Toothpaste.

As I used the toothpaste, the cooling crystals created a burst of freshness within me, which slowly washed away the gloomy colors from my face and evaporated my distasteful mood. Right at that moment, the rocking Colgate Max Fresh jingle started playing on the TV, which made me tap my foot effortlessly.

The Colgate Max Fresh song is so peppy and energetic that it instantly cheered me up and made me dance without any inhibitions. The foot tapping song filled me up with a dose of energy and enthusiasm. The beats of the song are so rocking that anyone will feel like dancing, after listening to it. Just like the toothpaste, the ad jingle also gave me a dose of Taazgi Ka Dhamaka.

After dancing to my heart's content, I felt energetic, happy and was once back to my jovial form. I must say that the Colgate MaxFresh Toothpaste and the ad jingle saved my weekend from getting spoiled and gloomy.

My Musical Nights

"I wait for the moon to inject the earth with rosy slumber
As I know you would embrace me with even greater passion this night"

I dedicate these lines to my magical and loyal companion, Music who makes my nights soulful, melodic and bearable. Being a writer, I have this habit of working till late night, especially when I am sitting with a manuscript. Night is the time when words flow smoothly from my pen and music make it even better. I sit with my laptop dealing with the life of my characters and music in low volume fills the ambiance of my room with ecstasy. In those moments, I feel life is a bliss.

Being an over thinker by nature, there are many nights when anxiety, loneliness and uncertainty grasps me, making my pen stutter at frequent intervals. This is the time when again, music makes it all bearable. It inspires, it placates, it makes me feel that life is such a beautiful celebration...celebration of love, celebration of friendship, celebration of joy and also the celebration of pain. Therefore, we have songs of all flavors because all these flavors together forms the enigma called life and needs to be celebrated.

Had we not been blessed with this human life, we wouldn't have been privileged to soak in the magical allure of music. I am going to share one of the playlists of my musical nights in this post.

Before taking a look at my playlist, watch this video. The quirky moves of Alu Arjun and Anushka Manchanda will surely make you laugh.

Okay, now coming back to my playlist, here are some of my favorite songs that fill up my musical nights. Take a look:

The first song is Tum hi ho from Aashiqui 2.
I have really lost count of how many times I have heard this song till date. May be, over 1000? Well, can be. The incredible vocals of Arijit Singh mesmerize me every single time.

The second song that features in my playlist is Nadaan Parindey of Rockstar. The lyrics and the music of this song takes me to a different world. What a song sung by the legend A.R Rehman and the amazing Mohit Chauhan!

The next song is Tujhe Bhula Diya from Anjaana Anjaani. The starting music of the song accompanied by Shruti Pathak's voice singing Naina lagiya baarisha just spreads all over me and Mohit Chauhan's vocals just take this song to a different level. This is one of the songs that had remained etched in my memory, ever since I had listened to it for the first time.

The fourth song on my playlist is Subhanallah from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. This song makes a huge smile appear on my face, every time I listen to it. Be it the Ranbir-Deepika chemistry in the song or the melodious voice of Sreeram, this song always alights my musical nights.

This song "Tum hi ho" from Rockstar sung by Mohit Chauhan and Kavita Krishnamurthy is definitely one of the most romantic and soulful songs that I have listened. This song has stayed with me always.

The sixth song in my list is Sun Saathiya of ABCD 2. This is my latest favorite song which I keep humming a lot these days. The perfect dance beats and the mellifluous voice of Priya Saraiya makes it quite a loved song.

The song Jiya re from Jab Tak Hai Jaan fills me up with a lot of adoration and love for myself. A very lively, peppy song that makes you fall in love with life and with yourself. And yes, I love the video too!

This song Dil ne tumko chun liya hai from Jhankar Beats reminds me of my high school days. The silky voice of Shaan, the melodious composition and the romantic lyrics always fill the ambiance with a lot of mush.

The Journey Song of Piku is so fresh, optimistic and beautiful that it always cheers me up, whenever I listen to it. The vocals of Anupam Roy and Shreya Ghoshal creates magic!

Music always rejuvenates us and makes us value life. So CELEBRATE MUSIC, CELEBRATE LIFE!

I really enjoyed making this playlist. Hope you enjoyed listening to it too :)
