Frozen Night

( Image Source: environment.arizona.edu)

The pitch dark, frozen night
Looks tranquil on the surface
Howling underneath;
Beautiful with countless stars
Or arduous with innumerable tears?

The charcoal black, frozen night
She sits on the bed, crying
Music playing in the dim-lit room;
Ghosts of her past
Putting up a romantic show.

The long, desolate, frozen night
Nostalgia like broken glass
Slits her heart and soul;
Her tears forsake her like a betrayer
She is left numb with night, her only companion.

This poem is written for Poets United Midweek Motif ~ Night

    1. Exactly, Mandy. Many things look beautiful from faraway, just like the lives of people we idolize.

  9. Ouch! The turbulence under the freeze is where the truth lies at least for the while. It Ll looked so romantic once--from the other side. Careful of sharp objects in the dark!

  23. Yes, you've captured the danger of nostalgia here,often seen as harmless pondering, it often does rip through us like "broken glass" with a longing that damages us. Great lines.

    1. Yes, Claire. If we allow nostalgia to persist for a long time, then it can really damage us. Thanks a lot :)
