To the distant land!

The picture is taken from the Darjeeling rope way. Sitting in the rope way, I couldn't help but marvel at this distant land shrouded in tea plantations.

My mind wanders
To the distant land
As I gaze at its tranquil beauty.

My eyes get cleansed
By the tantalizing greenery
I now see only immaculate purity around me.

The zig-zag path
Is complicated, but not chaotic
May be subdued, but not confined.

There is abundance of harmony
Harmony is the best form of beauty
The tune is soft yet euphonious.

My mind wanders
To the beautiful distant land
My thoughts flow like a rivulet.

I think of people
Inhabiting such harmonious places
Where Nature is the guardian angel;

Do places influence people
Or people influence places?
Proximity to Nature is certainly big magic.

  1. Even man made development in a natural scene can be beautiful as you illustrate in your words and picture. Sadly we become too greedy and praise development for its own sake not realizing then what we have lost. Great poem Purba.

    1. I totally agree with you. In the process of craving for developments, we get far away from nature and repent later.
Thanks for the wonderful comment :)

  3. Your last question is a wonderful philosophical dilemma - i'm guessing both - one person's perception can be very different from another...i love how this poem meanders and moves -The zig-zag path is complicated, but not chaotic - somehow feels like a metaphor for the poets state of mind..

    1. That was exactly my thought when I was writing the poem...the zig zag path in this picture which is complicated but not chaotic is so much like a poet's mind.
Thanks for the wonderful comment. Glad you loved it :)

  9. "...big magic", indeed. The image is stunning. And your words put me in mind of how beautiful the world would, if man could just exist in balance with Nature.

  13. "Euphonious"? Geesh! It was so simple and pure until I had to look up that word. The word is beautiful... enough to be described in detail by your talented and creative verse.

  15. An interesting question...I think a bit of both...we influence a place and vice versa...beautiful homage to a place!

  16. "Nature is the guardian angel"--- I love that. Back here, we have the same zig-zag road that is always fun to go through though quite dangerous if you don't drive well. :)
