Trapped amidst the tempest
She could see no outlet;
Her limbs were too numb to run
Her throat was too parched to yell.
Trapped amidst the tumultous waves
She felt like a ship in danger;
Unable to maintain balance
Struggling to stand tall.
To surrender or to sustain?
She asked her soul again and again;
Till a blanket of resilience sheathed her
And her bones got back their lost vigor.
To surrender or to sustain?
She was now ready to battle the tempest;
Till it gets defeated in drowning her
And makes space for the sun to peep in.

To surrender or to sustain?
ReplyDeleteShe asked her soul again and again;
Till a blanket of resilience sheathed her
And her bones got back their lost vigor.
The power of resilience is ever so much a guide to taking us through difficult times..!
Beautifully penned..!

So true, Sanaa.
DeleteWe can overcome adversities only by the power of our resilience.
Thank you :)
kudos to her will to stand...a nice take on the prompt :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sumana. We must learn to stand tall even in our trying times :)
DeleteI am sorry she had to sacrifice herself for the victory--tho I suspect it may come to that down the road aways. I hope that I would have the strength! Powerful images.
ReplyDeleteThank you Susan for your valuable feedback. We must have such strength to emerge victorious in our lives :)
DeleteI love that question, to surrender or to sustain, and the hope of making room for the sun to peep in at the end. Yay!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Sherry. I loved the ray of hope that was so profound in your poem on the same prompt. Cheers :)
Deletei like all the questions and the answered determination of your female persona, but the image is so demure, it doesn't do much justice to the fire of the poem
ReplyDeletemuch love...
Thank you so much Gillena. Much love :)
DeleteThe poem really takes the reader on a journey - and ends with that wonderful image of hope...
ReplyDeleteThanks Clairey. After all, hope is the oil of the lamp called life. We should always hold on to hope :)
DeleteThe embodiment of a resilient spirit lies in woman. Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Moonie. I totally agree.
DeleteAnd thanks :)
I like the resilience here. I hope we all have that and suspect we do.
ReplyDeleteI wish we all develop a deep reslience within us :) Cheers :)
DeleteThere is so much strength and determination in this writing. May you always be sheathed in a 'blanket of resilience' Purba.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the lovely and kind words. Wish you the same :)
DeleteA very motivational poem. I like 'fight until you die' attitude. But, surrender is the only way to sustain in eternity. I believe in: 'You cannot be defeated until you surrender and when you surrender on your own will, no can defeat you.'
ReplyDeleteLovely words, Ravish. Thank you :)
DeleteI too believe that we must surrender to the Almighty whenever we are in difficulty but definitely we should not surrender to our fears or doubts.
Very beautiful words!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Mridula :)
DeleteBeautifully worded Purba, Resilience is the key to sustain through the tempest.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Somali. Thank you :)
DeleteBeautifully Written!
ReplyDeleteThank you :)

ReplyDeleteThank you, Alok. Yes, she is a dream image of me and a hope that I have provided to myself through the poem :)
DeletePerhaps in all battles there is an element of both surrendering and sustaining...and when we find that balance hopefully light does indeed peep in
ReplyDeleteWonderfully said, Jae. We need to find that perfect balance to emerge as a winner :)
DeleteShe got the much needed strength is all that counts....superb poem :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Shweta. Our strength and grit is what matters in the end. Thanks babe :)
DeleteWe can weather the storm better than we think.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! We just need to find the courage within :)
DeleteAt times we seem to master the worst of situations, simply by our sheer resolve, to overcome...Having the energy to succeed...even a tempest.
ReplyDeleteEileen
Yes, Eileen. By our grit and sheer resolve, we can overcome even the worst of situations. We just need to tell ourselves "Yes, I can do it! I will do it".
