Stupid! I hate you (Flash Fiction)

After tussling with her mind for more than three hours, Naina finally decided to make that call to her best friend, whom she has lost in the hand of misunderstandings, some eight months back. They never talked after that. None of them even tried talking to each other. When hurtful words hit our psyche, they ooze out tears which cause more pain than blood. She knew it was neither of their fault; it was the situation which was faulty.

Life kept her extremely busy and one day, when she finally cleared the clutter, she could see her missed connection. She did not just lose her best friend that day; she also lost her brightest smile along with him. With tears and a pulsating heart, she dialed his number. The phone rang and rang for what seemed like eternity, but no one picked the call. “He would never talk to me again”, Naina mumbled. She felt the ground slipping beneath her feet when a message popped up on her mobile screen.

Stupid! I hate you.

Naina could feel her brightest smile returning back to her face and she ended up giggling.

  1. Sweet fiction Purba. At times it becomes hard to break the barriers of communication when ego comes to the fore, All it may take is one attempt from both sides and inhibition melts away on its own,

    1. Exactly, Somali. Ego is the root cause of broken friendships. Misunderstandings may happen, things might not be always rosy. But we should not let ego take over. A little effort from our side can often drive away the misunderstandings.

  5. There are many times when we fail to tell people how much we love and miss them for the sake of keeping our pride, but one must keep his/her ego aside if s/he wants them back. Such a sweet story of two friends, Reminds me of the time when I get mad at my friends and the very next moment start missing those stupids. :D

    1. Yes, Deeshani. There are times like this when despite wanting someone back in our lives, we do not take any step just to preserve our pride. We should never let ego be our predator, if we really love and value someone. I am so glad that this fiction reminded you of your friends :)
